Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to questions you may have about me and these lesson plans. Feel free to reach out if you still have questions after reading this section:

  • What is your educational background? I (Daniella) am a Master Herpetologist. I have a Bachelor of Law, and a Masters of Arts in Teaching [MAT – France equivalent] with a specialization in language didactics.

  • How do you know so much about frogs? Toads roamed our yard as a child, and I made it a safe place for them to thrive so I could observe them in their natural habitats. I have written over 300 articles about frogs based on this blog. I have been in internet marketing for many years now and my research skills and ability to read complex academic articles (from completing a Bachelor’s in Law) made it easy for me to synthesize complex notions from scientific research papers on frogs, into easy to understand blog posts and YouTube videos.

  • How are the lessons organized? Each lesson focuses on one core concept, or one topic at a time so the students can leave your classroom having learned one main thing for targeted attention and knowledge acquisition. The lessons build upon each other leaving time to reiterate and repeat what was previously learned while still focusing on one learning point per period (of 30 to 45 minutes). If the pace is too slow or fast, there is room to remove or add content thanks to the teachers notes and further learning resources included. Although the lessons are organized per approximate, general age group, they can easily be adapted to any learner level.

  • What curriculum are these lessons made for? The content of these lesson plans do not follow a specific curriculum and are not made for any specific geographic location, and this is on purpose. I made these lesson plans with an international audience in mind, knowing that teachers generally adapt what they find online to their curriculum requirements, and their own students’ learning pace and needs. That being said, many of the lessons in this package could fit under one or more of the following types of education content standards:
  • Life & Natural Sciences
  • Population & Ecosystems
  • Diversity & Adaptations of Organisms
  • Regulation & Behavior
  • Evolution & Equilibrium
  • Resources & Environment
  • Creation & Expression
  • Earth Science
  • Ecology & Conservation
  • Environmental Studies
  • Art

Therefore, please feel free to use this content as a very advanced springboard and to adapt it to your children’s learning pace, as well as the curriculum requirements you are under in your jurisdiction.

  • What is your teaching experience? I taught French (immersion) to 150 students at all grade levels of elementary. It was a great pleasure to have the chance to work with each student in the school at all levels from JK to Grade 6 (ages 4 to 12). I also taught groups of children English while in France even before my career started; as well as English to adults in higher education (one-on-one and in class-settings) when I returned to Canada. I also assisted large groups of young adults (18 to 28) in their learning French during a 5 week immersion program for five consecutive Summers. I have also been teaching on YouTube for 6 years now.

  • What teaching methodology did you follow? From a theoretical viewpoint and a practical implementation throughout my life, I believe in the action approach to teaching which stipulates putting the learner at the center of their learning experience, notably through doing, helps develop their intrinsic motivation to learn and grounds their knowledge acquisition. However, we all know it can be very difficult to implement the action approach in schools where a strict in-class curriculum is expected to be met, and where an active classroom is considered a “noisy zoo”, not an active learning environment. So I built the lessons with both a traditional in-class, sit-down approach to learning as well as a get-outside, action approach to knowledge acquisition. Some teachers will have an easier time implementing either strategy, or both in tandem (ideally). Keep in mind I am against top-down teaching, or a “here is what you need to know, now memorize it” approach – it’s not an engaging way to learn in my opinion.
